Finding Purpose in the Two Steps Back
If I am being totally honest, lately I have felt further from God.
Not because he has distanced from me, but I am prioritizing things that are nothing in comparison to my relationship with Christ.
Family is coming together for the holidays,
Finals are right around the corner for many,
And the new year is just weeks away.
I believe that a common misunderstanding is that once we become far from God, we have dug ourselves into a deep enough hole that on days, it seems too far to climb back up.
It can sometimes feel as though we have distanced ourselves from God by not prioritizing him every day.
It can feel as though we have disappointed him one too many times.
Our full devotion to God can lose its focus before we understand that we are no longer fully and utterly committed to Him,
We may not do this intentionally, but deep down, we become overwhelmed when our one step forward can turn into two steps back.
We may believe that if we take enough baby steps for the Lord, it will turn into something much bigger.
Maybe we are doing our devotion to start out our day.
Maybe we are praying every night before bed.
Maybe we are treating that one person that we used to hold a grudge against, with kindness.
But if you are like me, at the end of the day, you look back and find yourself far behind when you had hoped to be ahead.
We tell ourselves that tomorrow, we will be more intentional.
Although, when tomorrow comes, we become distracted and discouraged when we realize we didn't do better like we thought we would.
It is a dangerous cycle.
Lucky for us, this cycle is not like the others, because our Lord is like no other.
Our Lord is stronger than every other, and our Lord is not going to give up on us when we give up on ourselves.
When we don't have faith in ourselves, God is standing behind us.
When we find ourselves two steps behind, God is watching and waiting to remind us that we were destined to fail, because we were trying to do it alone.
We live in a world where we push until we can't anymore.
We live in a world where we are given the impression that if we fail, we are failures.
But this is not our life to live.
We have one person that we are here to live for, and that is Jesus Christ.
Instead of fighting a battle that we are destined to lose on our own,
Let's fight to remember that our God put us on this Earth knowing that we were going to fail, disappoint him, and grow far from him.
We have grown with the understanding that if we have a problem, we need to fix it.
The Lord can give us a new vision, that we are not here to fix it.
God is waiting for us to take our problems to him, so that he can remind us each and every day that we are not made to fix life on our own.
Our God is not just going to fix us, because he cares more than to stop there.
He is just waiting to take us out of our seemingly never-ending cycle, and show us that nothing determines our worth, other than Him.
Not because he has distanced from me, but I am prioritizing things that are nothing in comparison to my relationship with Christ.
